Quo Sona alternatives

Picks and order are never sold. Paid placements are always labelled Sponsored.

Last updated: 1 November 2026. Quo, formerly OpenPhone, is a business phone system; this comparison covers Sona, its AI agent. Quo Sona is a per-call add-on that needs a paid Quo plan, not a standalone receptionist. Every paid plan includes about 10 Sona calls a month at no extra cost, and optional Sona packages add more. Packages cannot be bought during the Quo free trial. Our listing records the start as: Included with a paid Quo plan: 1,000 Sona credits a month (~10 calls at 100 credits per call, then $1.00 per extra call with overages on). The Quo plan itself is a separate per-user charge: Starter $19/user/mo billed monthly or $15/user/mo billed annually. The six alternatives below come in two groups: phone systems that sell their own AI add-on, and standalone AI receptionists that answer calls forwarded from the number you already have. They come from the AI Front Desk List directory, which lists 282 AI receptionist and voice agent vendors as of today. Quo's pricing and Sona pages were rechecked on 1 November 2026. We publish no star ratings or reviews.

Who Quo Sona is for

It suits a small team that already takes its calls in Quo. Quo's Sona page (checked 1 November 2026) says Sona answers 24/7, takes messages, answers questions about your hours, services and pricing from the details you add, captures leads, transfers callers to a teammate or department, and sends a text with a link or directions while the caller is still on the line. You add Sona to points in your call flow, for example only after hours.

Pricing as recorded: Included with a paid Quo plan: 1,000 Sona credits a month (~10 calls at 100 credits per call, then $1.00 per extra call with overages on); optional Sona packages Tier 2 $25/mo (40 calls, then $0.75 each), Tier 3 $49/mo (100 calls, then $0.65 each), Tier 4 $99/mo (250 calls, then $0.55 each), Tier 5 $199/mo (600 calls, then $0.45 each). Add-on to a paid Quo plan, priced per user; Starter $19/user/mo billed monthly or $15/user/mo billed annually; Business $33/user/mo monthly or $23/user/mo annually; Scale $47/user/mo monthly or $35/user/mo annually. Overages are off by default (when credits run out, Sona stops answering and calls go to the fallback path in your call flow). Calls under 15 seconds are free.

Four rules from Quo's Sona pricing page (checked 1 November 2026) decide what you actually pay:

  • A paid package is optional. Every paid Quo plan includes 1,000 credits a month, and a Sona call uses 100 credits, so about 10 calls.
  • Overages are off by default. When the credits run out, Sona stops answering and calls go to the fallback path in your call flow. If you turn overages on, Sona keeps answering and bills each extra call at your package's rate.
  • Packages need a paid plan billed online. You cannot buy one during the Quo free trial, or on an Apple subscription, and only a workspace Admin or Owner can buy one.
  • Credits reset monthly on your billing date, also on annual plans, and unused credits expire.

How to read the billing units

The alternatives bill in different units, so the prices below cannot be set side by side as if they were the same thing:

  • Calls: Quo Sona and Upfirst count answered calls, whatever their length. Quo does not count Sona calls under 15 seconds.
  • AI minutes: JustCall and RingCentral count the minutes the AI spends on calls.
  • Unique callers: Goodcall counts each different caller once a month, however often they call.
  • Seats: Quo, JustCall, Allo and Ody charge per user for the phone system. A standalone receptionist has no seat charge but does not replace your phone system.

Pull a month of call logs (calls, minutes and distinct callers) and price each plan in its own unit. Our cost guide explains each unit.

When to look at an alternative

Consider another service if you need:

  • More than about 10 AI-answered calls a month without buying a package, or answering that never stops at a credit limit.
  • AI answering on a phone system you already use, since Sona works only inside Quo.
  • Outbound calls or mid-call language switching. Quo's Sona page says Sona answers inbound calls only, and handles English, Spanish and French without switching language mid-call.
  • To try the AI before you pay for a phone plan. Sona packages, and Sona's own trial, need a paid Quo plan.

Tags show who a vendor markets to, not what it can do. We list what each record says it does.

There is no single price order here: a call, a minute and a caller are different units, and Quo, JustCall, Allo and Ody add a per-user seat charge. Upfirst counts calls, as Sona does, so its allowance is the closest like-for-like with Sona's packages; still check how each counts short or transferred calls.

When to stay with Quo Sona

Stay if your team already works in Quo and about 10 AI-answered calls a month, or a package, covers your after-hours or overflow volume. Sona sits inside your existing call flow, so you can add it only where you want it, test it before you publish, and keep the fallback path you already have for calls it does not take. If you need more calls in some months, move up a package or turn overages on.

Switching checklist

  1. Number porting or call forwarding. To move to another phone system, port your Quo numbers to it. To keep Quo for your team, forward the calls you want answered (after hours, overflow or all) to a standalone receptionist. Keep Sona in your call flow until test calls pass.
  2. Fallback path. Decide what happens when the new service cannot take a call or runs out of allowance: voicemail, a teammate, or overage billing. Sona sends calls to your call flow's fallback path when credits run out with overages off; check the equivalent on the alternative.
  3. Human escalation. List who takes a transferred call and at what hours. Test a live transfer and a missed transfer.
  4. Booking and handoff. Decide where a call should end: a booked appointment, a CRM record, or a message in your team inbox. Make a test call and check what appears.
  5. Billing setup. If you stay on Quo and add a package, check that your workspace pays online rather than through an Apple subscription. If you switch, compare a month of your calls, minutes and distinct callers with each allowance in its own unit, plus any per-user seats.

FAQ

How much does Quo Sona cost?

Every paid Quo plan includes about 10 Sona calls a month. Our listing records: Included with a paid Quo plan: 1,000 Sona credits a month (~10 calls at 100 credits per call, then $1.00 per extra call with overages on); optional Sona packages Tier 2 $25/mo (40 calls, then $0.75 each), Tier 3 $49/mo (100 calls, then $0.65 each), Tier 4 $99/mo (250 calls, then $0.55 each), Tier 5 $199/mo (600 calls, then $0.45 each).

Can I buy Sona during the Quo free trial?

No. Quo's Sona page, checked 1 November 2026, says you must be on a paid Quo plan to buy Sona, so free trial users convert to a paid plan first. Packages also need online billing, not an Apple subscription.

What happens when Sona runs out of credits?

Overages are off by default, so Sona stops answering and calls go to the fallback path in your call flow. If you turn overages on, Sona keeps answering and bills each extra call at your package's rate.

Can I test an alternative before switching?

JustCall AI Voice Agent: 14 days; first 100 AI Voice Agent minutes free per the pricing page, but 30 minutes of agent time per the AI Voice Agent page; no card required. Allo AI Receptionist: Trial with conditions (not free). Ody: Free trial, 7 days, card required. RingCentral AI Receptionist: Free trial, 14 days. Upfirst: Free trial, 14 days. Goodcall: No free trial; free demo agent until you connect a number.

Are these alternatives ranked by payment?

No. Picks are editorial. Picks and order are never sold. Paid placements are always labelled Sponsored. See our methodology and Advertise.
